The Utah & Northern was a three foot gauge railroad running from the Central Pacific/Union Pacific Junction at Ogden Utah to mines at Butte, Montana. Its first boxcars were 24' Billmeyer & Smalls products identical to those purchased by the Denver & Rio Grande. This decal set letters five cars, including one "oil car" seen in a photograph of the Eagle Rock (Idaho Falls) shops. U&N only assigned even numbers to its boxcars; odd numbers were reserved for flatcars.
Between 1883 and 1890 the Utah & Northern interchanged with the narrow gauge Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway, allowing its freight cars access to the D&RG and DSP&P in Colorado, so these cars have a wide range across the Rocky Mountain narrow gauge network. The Leadville Designs Billmeyer & Smalls boxcar kit is the correct prototypical representation for these decals but this set will work on any narrow gauge freight car kit.
