Pacific Coast Railway Gravel Gondola #1169
Pacific Coast Railway Gravel Gondola #1169
CONTENTS: One one-piece body for PCRy gravel gondola #1169. One of 52 gondolas the PCRy converted from 33-foot flatcars into gondolas in their own shops beginning in 1915. From drawings and photos in "The Pacific Coast Railway - Central California's Premier Narrow Gauge" by Curt Johnson.
ADDITIONAL PARTS NEEDED: To complete the gondola you will need to separately purchase: Micro Trains Line Nn3/Z knuckle or N link-and-pin couplers, MTL or T R Knapp Model Engineering archbar trucks, Fox Valley metal wheel sets, MTL Peacock brake wheel, Berkshire Line elastic "telephone" line (or "knitting-in-elastic") for truss rods, and brass wire for the corner steps and the support rods across the body (see picture of completed model). Decals are available from Republic Locomotive Works.
GENERAL: This is a craftsman kit consisting primarily of 3D printed resin plastic parts. These parts are NOT as strong or flexible as the “engineering” plastics many of you will be used to in railway models, nor even as strong as conventional injection molded styrene. HANDLE THE PARTS CAREFULLY TO AVOID BREAKAGE. Wash the parts in isopropyl alcohol aided by a soft brush. Very thin parts of the kit can be strengthened by applying very small droplets of CA adhesive with the tip of a pin or needle to the back of the thin area after the parts dry.
