Work Started on the Sutro Tunnel in 1869 and was completed in 1878. This kit represents the cement portal face that was built in 1888, and still survives to this day. Doors, which would be opened and closed to regulate air flow, are included and positionable. The left side was for the rails while the right was for the water flume.
The doors are large enough to accommodate small, narrow gauge locomotives, such as a Porters.
This kit includes an option brick and cement candle house, which is directly adjacent to the tunnel portal, and was used to store fuel and candles for miner's lighting.
The Portal Face without the Candle House prints in 8 pieces, while the one with the Candle House in 10.
Ore Cars used at the Sutro Tunnel are available but sold separately.
