"Hardtack box on two rolling pins" would be the best way to describe this mine car. This early mine car is on display at the Way it Was Museum in Virginia City and was used in tight workings, likely by miners who had to crawl to push it. This car is of a very simple construction, only using a few metal brackets to hold itself together and could easily have been built in the most rudimentary shops of the time. This car was only 14" gauge and ran on small wooden rails. To simulate wooden rails I would recommend using Northeast Scale Lumber's 1x2" or 1x3" basswood strips in their respective scales.
