Forever associated with the Normandy landings,the VLA (Very Low Altitude – US Type M1) balloon was used earlier in the war for Atlantic convoy protection and also in the invasions of Sicily and Italy. The balloon could be flown from motor vehicles travelling as fast as 40mph and two flown together could reach an altitude of 4,400 ft, almost as much as the 5,000 ft norm of the more frequently seen LA type.
This set of nine balloons arrives as nine individual models still on their print supports. Please consult the attached diagrams BEFORE removing the supports to avoid losing some of the detail.
