Francis M Davis, of Denver, Colorado, patented this horse powered hoist in 1888, and immediately found success amongst the mines across the world. Advertised as simple to use and maintain, and weighing less than a ton, it was popular in small to mid sized mines with shafts of a depth of up to 600 vertical feet. These hoists were manufactured by the FM Davis Iron Works, of Denver Colorado, and licensed to Joshua Hendy Iron Works, of San Francisco, and produced to a point sometime around the end of the first World War.

A very similar horse whim was patented by A. Dobbie in 1882 and was manufactured by the Contractor's Plant Manufacturing Co. of Buffalo, and licensed Anaconda Mining Co's Foundry in Montana

This kit prints in 6 separate pieces, but wood for the base and boom must be provided by the modeler. The small mine cars, sheave wheels, and a skips or ore buckets offered by Oquirrh & Ontonagon Scale Mining Supply would accompany this kit very well.
