Title

An HO Model of a LIRR Crossing Shanty. Comparable to a small shed, these structures were used by the LIRR to guard the various railroad crossings on the island. The model displayed represents the surviving Bay Avenue Shanty, though other similar designs for these were available. I shall eventually have a few variants released for these structures. A special thanks to Dave Morrison and Steven Quigley† for their information on these, particularly relating to the colors.

Shutters will have to be fabricated separately, as they would not print to prototypical scale. These would be made up of Vertical Tongue & Groove board, with a set of horizontal Battens on the interior side. I do not know how the rear Shutter on these would have opened, but I do know that the shutters on the sides would have opened towards the rear.

Paint is not provided, and will need to be sourced separately. The structure would have originally been delivered in all white, bar the shingle roof of course. I have seen photos of them painted with dark corner posts & molding which I presume to be black, so paint at your discretion. The shanties would have later been painted into a two tone scheme, A "Mustard" Color above the window line, and below a Dark "Forest" Green below the Sills and also the Door, Shutters & Molding. I have used Citadel Colors for the displayed model here, "Ogryn Camo" for the Mustard, and "Sybarite green" for the Dark Green".
