Beginning in 1898 the D&RGW built the first of their high side gondolas. All told a total of 1300 cars were built in 6 different classes. Our goal is to release a series of cars that can be customized to represent a large majority of the prototype fleet and its variations. More versions are planned for future release.

These cars were boxcar red with white lettering. To complete the model,  paint, and decal to your liking.

Styles:
  • Gondola
    • As described per version
  • Idler Flat
    • Sides and ends were removed, stake pockets un bolted. Brake wheels were removed, shortened, or relocated. Used chunks of rail were bolted to the underside of the side sills in an attempt to reinforce the cars.
  • Pipe Gondola
    • Ends were removed, corner brackets were cut or unbolted. Brake wheels were removed, shortened, or relocated. A support beam was installed usually above the bolster for the pipe to rest on and provide additional clearance on the ends over the idler cars.
As many we rebuilt 1950's there was little to no documentation as to which cars were converted and how. Cars received minimal work to be Converted to either a Pipe Gondola or Idler flat. follows a standard practice found in surviving cars, cars were repaired as needed on a minimal budget. Styles inherit the characteristics of the parent versions with the above changes.

Our meticulously crafted models are engineered to replicate a 3' gauge prototype car with unparalleled accuracy. Each model is designed with utmost precision, reflective of the highest fidelity at the time of their unveiling. Structural elements may have been subtly augmented to enhance the robustness and durability of the printed model, executed discreetly to maintain authenticity. Given the 3' gauge foundation of these models, additional adjustments might be necessary to adapt them for narrower (n30) gauges or to navigate tighter-than-prototype curves. Should you require the model to accommodate a specific setting, we urge you to reach out to us prior to purchase, and we will be delighted to assist you to the fullest extent.

Fantastic narrow gauge kits....

Fantastic narrow gauge kits. The cars are spot on for modeling prototype railroad cars of an earlier era. Easy to assemble into exact replicas of what once roamed the rails, and a pleasure to build. I can only hope that future products of other cars will become available. Don't miss out on these - well worth the money. Can never have enough narrow gauge gondolas...

Nn3 scale gondolas

Very nice perhaps could have queen posts but glad to see air tanks for brakes. Like the posts for couplers, makes mounting stronger than screws and leaves no mark on the floor. Picture showed brake shoes but I never saw any in the box. Might be too much for nn3 casting.

Just finished painting these models. Now on to decaling. Both prints are quite good, but a fair amount of cleanup work was required.
