An extension of the successful X23 boxcar, the Pennsylvania Railway's X24 Automobile Boxcar was introduced in 1913. 2,000 were built by American Car and Foundry. The 1917 Official Railway Equipment Register shows 2,000 cars split between Lines East (series 46280-47819) and Lines West (series 500579-501578).
Decals for this car are available through Mount Vernon Shops: https://www.mountvernonshops.com/products/ho-prr-x24-boxcar-decals
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a preliminary offering, meaning you will get a body, underbody, and optional Kadee™ couplers. Decals, trucks and detail parts will have to be supplied by the modeler. This car will eventually be re-released as a formal kit.

The fine details such as rivet heads and wood grain are easy to see and add to the overall appearance of the boxcars. Both of my boxcars developed an outward bow on both side of each car. The bow is slight and will easily be fixed by glueing a longitudinal support on each inside gluing the inside of the boxcar to the support. An easy fix and not a detractor from the overall model. The accompanying decal set has crisp lettering and has the spacing for the exterior framework on the decal. The word "AUTOMOBILE' was not included in the decal set, and images show the X24 automobile boxcar with the word and without it. I found a K4 Brand 40 To 50 Ft Boxcar Roman Font Dimensional Data Set - Decal - that had AUTOMOBILE spelled out four times on the sheet, which I ordered for my models' boxcars. The pictures I will use as a guide has the word in the upper lefthand corner of the boxcars. I am very happy with these models and look forward to painting, decaling and assembling them. Thanks.
